Dutch Colonies: Carambeí and Castro / Castrolanda

Located in the interior of Paraná, the Dutch colonies of Carambeí and Castro / Castrolanda offer a true journey through time, with a rich cultural heritage, typical architecture, and delicious cuisine that preserves the traditions of the Dutch immigrants who settled in the region in the 19th century.

Carambeí: Dutch History in Brazil

Founded in 1911, Carambeí is considered the first Dutch colony in Brazil. The city still preserves its traditions today, from the architecture of houses and churches to the cultivation of flowers and vegetables typical of Dutch culture.

At the Dutch Immigration Museum, visitors can learn about the history of the first immigrants and the importance of colonization in the city's development. One of the highlights is the Dutch-style church, which continues to keep the local community's culture and traditions alive.

Castro / Castrolanda: O Berço da Colonização Holandesa

Castro, with its Castrolanda colony, was another major Dutch settlement in Paraná, established in the late 19th century. The city preserves Dutch architecture and maintains agricultural production that dates back to colonization, with a focus on potato, corn, soy, and dairy farming.

In Castrolanda, the Dutch Colonization Museum and the Castrolanda Windmill are the main tourist attractions, showcasing the strong connection with the first immigrants and their agricultural techniques.

Local cuisine is also a major attraction, featuring typical dishes such as stroopwafel, cheeses, cakes, and Dutch breads, served in many regional restaurants.

Dutch Culture and Traditions

Both colonies keep their traditions alive with events such as the Carambeí Dutch Festival, which celebrates cultural roots, and Dutch Family Day, an event that brings together locals and tourists for festivities that include music, dance, and traditional food.
